The Past Might Hurt, But History is Our Best Warning System

This week was themed around learning about the history of Germany. Now don't get me wrong, Germany has radically changed since the time of World War's and Hitler's Regime, but we must learn about the past, in order to be more cautious in the future. During the span of this week, we have visited Hitler's Bunker (a re-creation). I believe it's very important that we allow these historical sites to exist, even if they are memories of dark times in the past. (Sorry there aren't pictures of the bunker, as we weren't allowed to take any) This is basically what I wanted to express this week, it's short, but important. Reading in the textbook about the Berlin Wall, about concentration camps, is only activating one sense, sight, and most likely it's not even to scale, and in the textbook. Having to meet the object, touching it, looking at it, being next to it, gives it a whole different feeling. It's actually there, something that was part of history is still here for us to learn from. Leaving off in a lighter tone, there are many things I've done this week that are different from New York City. Yesterday, I visited the Berliner Fernsehturm, and last weekend we had a 2 day vacation to Greifswald, which is Northern Germany. Tomorrow we are going to Wansee which is a bay in Berlin, and this upcoming weekend we are visiting Potsdam, which is Brandenburg's capital, super exciting. So see you guys till next week!
