My final week in Barcelona was hectic at first. Suddenly I was reminded of all of the museums, parks, and mountains I had not yet visited and was stressed from the time crunch. Not to mention, my parents cancelled my debit card earlier when I could not inform them I was taking out money due to a lack of data and I was left with limited money to spend.
In the end, I decided not to worry about visiting every last tourist attraction and to just enjoy my last few days with the friends I made there. We walked around the city, went to the beach, and biked. Overall we were just relaxing. One day we went to a chocolate museum with CIEE, and I ate so much chocolate that I felt sick the rest of the day. Otherwise, I would definitely say the last week was the week that I felt the most comfortable as I was fully adapted to the people that I saw every day this past month and the schedule of our trip.
I am definitely going to miss my host family and the friends I made in Barcelona. It is sad to think about how most of us will probably never see each other again, although I am definitely planning on returning to Barcelona with my family at some point in my life. Although they are simple, I am going to miss the bikinis I ate regularly with my host family, and am probably going to make them here at home as well.
Being in Barcelona feels unmistakably like being in Europe, and it is disorienting to be back in New York. It does not feel real yet.
The port that helped me battle my homesickness.
The hectic Encants Market with a lot of secondhand goods.
The infamous parque Guell.
